Music From The Movies,
Saturday, March 14th at 7pm

7-Mar-09

by: Regina Scruggs

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY...John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara starred in the classic movie The Quiet Man for Irish director John Ford. Music by Victor Young. Also, one of the living legends from Hollywood's Golden Age, Lauren Bacall, is featured. (Here's one of the few color pictures I could find from her '40s heyday.) She rose to fame starring with husband Humphrey Bogart 65 years ago (!) and at age 84, she's still active today! We'll hear music for "Betty" from How to Marry a Millionaire, To Have and Have Not, Key Largo, Murder on the Orient Express, and The Shootist. New reviews include Watchmen and Two Lovers, and on DVD we've got Cary Grant, Paul Newman, and Sidney Poitier!

BETTY COMES TO TOWN...Lauren Bacall will appear at the Landmark River Oaks Theatre, 2009 W. Gray, on Wednesday, March 11 at 6:30pm.  As part of the Brilliant Lecture Series, she's hosting a screening of her first film, To Have and Have Not (1944), and will take questions from the audience immediately following the movie.  The event hopes to raise funds for youth leadership programs.  For more information, the website is www.brilliantlectures.org, and the phone number is 713-974-1335.
