| | notes: Musicologist Brian Newbould's realization of this symphony is one of several. There is also one by Felix Weingartner, and another by Joseph Joachim. Schubert wrote directly into the full orchestral score, but typically there are so many measures fully orchestrated and then, suddenly, there are only a melody and a bass for a long time. It seemed as though the composer, battling veneral disease that at the time seemed to be in remission, was running a race against time. Apparently he was hoping to get back to the job of editing the piece, but never did. |
