The Music of David Shire.
This weekend we'll explore the music of composer David Shire. From Jazz, to minimalistic, to orchestral, Shire's compositions for every film are exactly what he intends. Shire is the master of what he calls "brain surgery music", or music that absolutely can't get in the way of the film. He writes so much with so little. We'll listen to cues from
All The President’s Men, and
The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, as well as others. We'll also listen to some cues from his orchestral score to
Return to Oz, an unsuccessful film, but a wonderful score. Join
Brad Sayles and KUHF's
Andrew Schneider this Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 5pm on Classical 91.7.
